Our Process...

Overview

Over the past 8 months, we’ve had our ups and downs as a group. The hardest is the fact we’ve never properly met as a group, but we still have a fun, are excited to create change and have a progressive dynamic.

Through all the hardships, challenges, late night calls and site seeing for our events, we were finally able to come up with one single issue we wanted to conquer, it was “Zero-waste businesses”. We did three initiatives.

Although it took a while, and you can later see in our challenges blog our long process, but it was eventually all worth it and we were successful. Through our choices blog you can see that it wasn’t easy reaching out to businesses and just breaking it down to just one.

We have created a Business proposal through all the media we’ve captured through our small workshop with Salon de Elephant. You can see the sustainable impact the Salon has through our “Sustainable Salon” blog. Businesses are able to look at this and see what they can implement into their salon.

Other than making consumers more aware of how going to a sustainable salon is impactful, we purchased some Terracycle boxes for our consumers to use at their Salon de Elephant. Consumers can put their empty plastic from cosmetics, hair care and skin care and Terracycle will recycle them properly and remove them from having to go to landfills. We have also purchased snack wrapper boxes for the Civic centre and Lindt workers to use in the office. Those plastic from wrappers tend to be thrown easily into the garbage, and can’t be recycled, but Terracyle makes it that we consumers can! How amazing is that?

Check out the posters we’ve made and how the organization set up the boxes:

Our last initiative to promote waste reduction was that we purchased green beauty products and made care packages to give to homeless shelters. All the products that we’ve chose to use are environmentally friendly.
